Goats and Chickens Project
Helping some of the world’s poorest people by providing goats and chickens to sustain future generations…one family at a time.
Located on the western coast of Africa, Cameroon is home to several small villages including Shisong and Bafut. These two villages have been blessed with the efforts of the Tertiary Franciscan Sisters who found their way to the area from France decades ago.
The Sisters have started a vocational school that teaches cooking, sewing and computer skills and have also been able to provide some medical care. Despite the help of the Sisters, living conditions are very poor and the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus has taken the lives of many young adults, leaving many grandparents and great-grandparents to care for their sometimes very young grandchildren.
The majority of residents in Shisong and Bafut are living on the edge of poverty and are in desperate need of help. With some families living on a mere $100 a year or less, many are unable to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, education or medical care. The Cameroon Goat & Chicken Fund, which began in 2001 by Sr. Edna at the St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, provides goats and chickens to the poorest residents in hopes that they can build a future. The goats and chickens are vital to their survival because they provide a sustainable food source as well as additional income which can help families for decades.
How You Can Help
You can help Cameroon families by donating $12 for a chicken, $35 for a male goat, $50 for a female goat or $85 for a pair of goats. It’s easy! Simply fill out the form online or attach and return with your tax-deductible donation.
