Smiles for Sr. Lucille
A dental hygiene program for the clients of St. Ann Center.
At St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care our goal is to provide care for the whole person: body, mind & spirit. For this reason a wonderful program called, “Smiles for Sr. Lucille” was created. The program is designed to provide dental hygiene instruction to adults and children with customized programs determined by age,
ability and special need. It is named in honor of Sister Lucille Walsh, a Sister of St. Francis of Assisi and the first woman religious to graduate from Marquette School of Dentistry.
Program goals:
To improve the dental hygiene, home care and overall health of St. Ann clientele.
Programs:
• Child Dental Awareness Program
• Adult Disabled Care Program
• Elderly Adult Care Program
Child Dental Awareness Program:
This program will bring awareness of good dental health, including proper care, tooth brushing and flossing and education about eating habits and food choices.
Adult Disabled & Elderly Care Programs:
The goal of these programs is to work with caregivers to identify the needs of each person. A care plan will be designed to meet the dental health needs of each
person. An individualized dental homecare letter will be sent to the caregiver outlining what was taught and what special needs should be implemented including; brushing, interproximal, denture and partial care. Both group and one-on-one meetings will be planned depending on individual need. We work with the client to implement a realistic home care plan. Home care products will be distributed based on individual need.
Programs include sample tubes of paste, toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes, foam handles, denture baths/cleaner, mouthwash, interproximal cleaners, etc.
All dental work, cleaning (polishing and subgingival scaling) will not be preformed in this program.
